Game 1 - Bosnia races to a 5-0 lead after three innings, but Detroit explodes for 7 in the 5th to take the lead, and Dazzy Vance was able to hold on for a 7-6 Urban Farmer victory. Mickey Mantle rocked a grand slam, and Rogers Hornsby collected 3 hits for Detroit. Cy Young went the distance, throwing 156 pitches!

Game 2 - Detroit continues to use the home field advantage, and coasts to a 15-1 shellacking of Bosnia. Rogers Hornsby, Barry Bonds, and Frank Robinson each brought in 3 runs. Tim Keefe moved to 3-0 for the playoffs.

Game 3- The series moves to Bosnia, and home court continues to be an advantage. The Strikers punish Mickey Welch with 13 hits and 7 runs. Al Simmons and Arky Vaughn combined for 6 hits and 5 RBI's. Christy Mathewson picks up the win 7-3 as the series now stands at 2-1 Detroit.

Game 4 - Bosnia's Rube Waddell shuts down the mighty Detroit offense on just 5 hits (4 from the Rajah!) and 1 run. Dan Brouthers, Eddie Collins, and Mark McGwire each had two hits for Bosnia. 5-1 Bosnian. The series is evened at 2 games each.

Game 5 - The fifth game in a 7 game series is always pivotal, and this one was a battle. Both teams scored in the first inning. Starters Tim Keefe and Iron Joe McGinnity both started to dominate, throwing goose egg after goose egg unti, after 9 innings, it was a 3-3 tie. In the bottom of the 10th, Bosnia got a single from Eddie Collins, who came home on a Jimmie Foxx double! Bosnia takes a 3-2 series lead and continue the streak of every game going to the home team!

Game 6 - This one started as a barnburner, with Bosnia racking up 3 runs in the first, and Detroit answering back with 3 in the second. However, Mickey Welch was not sharp, and Bosnia continued to pummel him. The big blow was a Mark McGwire grand slam. Playoff hero Jimmie Foxx crunched two home runs. Christy Mathewson goes the distance, and Bosnia takes the game and series!!!

Paging Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine Dr. Howard. Istanbul's pitchers need your help immediately!

Game 1 - Istanbul jumps on Christy Mathewson for 3 early runs, but loses Nolan Ryan to injury in the 2nd inning. Herb Pennock is summoned from the bullpen, and the Herb-ster throws 6 1/3 pretty good innings to hold off Bosnia and get the win in a 5-3 Particle Man victory. The Todd-Father, Todd Helton, had three hits and Carl Yaz hit a home run. Istanbul closer Trevor Hoffman was dominant, striking out Ted Williams, Jimmie Foxx, and Manny Ramirez in the bottom of the 9th to clinch it.

Game 2 - Two of the alltime "K" leaders, Sandy Koufax and Rube Waddell squared off in this matchup. Koufax was his usual awesome self against everyone but Mark McGwire. The K-Man had not seen the likes of this burly, red-bearded monster before! McGwire went deep twice, and Waddell got out of just enough jams to give Bosnia a 5-4 win, despite being outhit by Istanbul.

Game 3 - Nolan Ryan got the call to start this one after his abbreviated outing from a couple of days ago. Nolan and Iron Joe McGinnity pitched to a standoff, and we were tied after 9 innings. In the 10th, a Paul Waner walk, an Arky Vaughn single, a Schnozz Lombardi walk, and a King Kelly 'reach base on an error' resulting in 2 runs for the Strikers, and they would take it in extras 5-3. Nolan left after 2 outs in the 10th with a devastating arm injury, while Iron Joe, true to his name, showed no fatigue at all.

Game 4 - More incredible bad luck for Istanbul as yet another pitcher injury, this time to Bob Gibson, sends them reeling to another loss. Gibson was lost in the 3rd inning, and despite another heroic long-inning relief performance by Herb Pennock, the Particle Men would lose 5-4. Bosnia wins it on a dramatic 9th inning run scored courtesy of a two-out, Harry Heilmann walk, stolen base, and then Eddie Collins single. Christy Mathewson goes the distance and gets the 'W" for Bosnia, who takes a 3-1 series lead.

Game 5 - Istanbul wins at home despite, amazingly, another pitchers injury. This time it was K-Fax himself, Sandy Koufax, to leave the game early. Roberto Clemente (3 hits), Frank Thomas (2 rbi's), and Carl Yaz (2 rbi's) provided enough offense for Amos Rusie to finish it out, and Istanbul takes it 7-2.

Game 6 - We travel to Bosnia, with the Strikers hoping to avoid a Game 7. Istanbul starts Bob Gibson, while Bosnia responds with the Fergie-licious One, Ferguson Jenkins. Both pitchers show nerves and give up 2 runs in the first inning but Bosnia continues to beat up Gibson and builds up a 5-3 lead going into the 9th. Istanbul got hits from Nap Lajoie, Yaz, Todd Helton, and Roberto Clemente to knot it up at 5 all. All that hard work was for naught, however, as Jimmie Foxx belted a walk-off homer to wrap up the game and the series for Bosnia, 7-5.

"Brothers from another mother" Brooks and Frank Robinson catch up before the series begins

Wilford Brimley and his rootin' tootin' gang of oatmeal eating, urban farming, haystacks throwing sluggers blasted the Russian Impalers, routing them in five games.

Game 1- Urban Farmers make the most of their 5 hits, scoring 4 runs off the "Big Train" Walter Johnson. Addie Joss goes the distance, and Frank Robinson leads the Detroit offense with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Detroit takes the home opener 4-2.

Game 2- Another complete game for Detroit, but Tim Keefe was not quite as sharp as Addie Joss the previous day. The mustachioed Keefe allowed 16 hits, 7 runs, and 3 homers in his nine non-quality innings. Famed manager Wilford Brimley showed complete confidence in Keefe, refusing to take him out for ANY reason whatsover. Russian starter Roger Clemens was equally ineffective, giving up 13 hits and 8 runs. Detroit, after grabbing an early lead, hangs on for an 8-7 win. Frank Robinson again the star, going 2 for 3 with 2 runs and 4 rbi's. Jim Rice went 3 for 3 as well for Detroit. Russia's emergency shortstop pickup, Lou Boudreau, got 3 hits, as did "The Mechnaical Man" Charlie Gehringer and the Big Cat, Johnny Mize (or, Jhonny Mize, as he might be known in today's game).

Game 3- We travel to Moscow, and the long flight seemed to have no effect on the players. "Heck, I used to ride 3 days in train boxcars just to get to St. Looey, this is nothing", said Cy Young, starter for Detroit. Ol' Cyrus had a good outing, allowing a single run (unearned) through 6 1/3 innings as Detroit, again led by Frank Robinson, built up a 4-1 lead. The Impalers, however, were not ready to just give up on their home turf. Hank Aaron doubled, and came home on a couple of groundouts to cut the lead to 4-2 after 8 innings, and Eddie Murray opened the bottom of the 9th by taking Kid Nichols yard to make it 4-3. The Kid recovered, however, and closed out the game, another squeaker, 4-3 Detroit.

Game 4- Just call this the Revenge of The Impalers! In a show of offensive might, Russia racked up 17 runs and 15 hits to dominate the Urban Farmers 17-4, and take their first win of the series. Nothing went right for Detroit tonight. Starter Addie Joss injured his arm just 3 pitches into this one, and emergency reliever Kid Nichols was absolutely hammered. Detroit was actually leading this one 3-1 at the 7th inning stretch, but Russia exploded for 12 runs in the bottom of the 7th! Hank Aaron and Johnny Mize led the way with 3 hits each, as every Impaler other than Chuck Klein managed to get at least one hit. Klein, always a consistent slugger in this league, is in a miserable slump, hitting .056 at this point!

Game 5 - After avoiding the sweep, Russia came into this game determined to win another at home. This game was close throught. Tim Keefe and Al Spalding were equally brilliant, and this one was tied after nine, 4-4. In the top of the 10th, Urban Farmer Bill Dickey walked, and Rogers Hornsby tripled him in. Keefe was able to finish the 10th and hold off Russia for a 5-4 win, and punched a ticket for Detroit to the World Series. A vanquished Russian team, disheartened by losing at home, did take consolation from their Detroit conquerors, as Wilford Brimley gave them a nice pep talk afterwards and supplied them with instant oatmeal packets and home dia-beet-us testing kits.

Series Goat, Chuck Klein, searches for the right bat. Klein was a major disaster for Russian, and hit a measly .043 (1 for 23) in the series.

The Great Strikeout Race of Istanbul's Sandy Koufax and Nolan Ryan was historic indeed, as the Sandman and Nolan are now perched #1 and #2 of all time! Istanbul continued to rewrite the record book, as Particle Second Base Man Nap Lajoie crunched 61 doubles this season, pushing Tris Speaker off the top of the charts. Nolan Ryan set a dubious record this year, racking up an incredible 222 walks!

Glasgow's Kiki Cuyler has set a new record for hitting streaks, AND it's still active! The Kik-ster hit safely in the last 25 games of the season, and has a chance to add to that come 2011.

It's getting so an honest Southern gentleman can't get a wink of sleep anymore. Check out these bags I'm sporting under my eyes and believe that!

Cricket's chirping, beeping, acting in those damn soapy operatics, I can't keep up with all this madness. You've awoken the sleeping giant, so I will address the pressing issue of the day: Playoffs! (don't even say a word, Jim Mora, I'm not in the mood!)

The issue at hand is a simple one: do we play 'live' games at the Landis estate, or let that newfangled computing apparatus simulate the games? This, my friends, is one decision I will leave up to the owners involved. Tim and Michael, you can play any weekend if you choose live games. Mike and PJ have a slightly more difficult situation, with PJ up in Mount Keenesaw, Michigan, at that Central Landis University. You two fellers work it out over some emailed letters, and will get this going.

Now, back to my den to hibernate. HARRRRRUUMMPPPHH!!!

Lesser relievers like Hoyt Wilhelm, Billy Wagner, and Mariano Rivera all made the list.

An angry Dave Walter fired off a note to the Commissioner complaining about the omission. Judge Landis promised to review the vote counts with Official League Vote Counter (and umpire) Jim Joyce.

Don Zimmer is rushed to hospital, not because he is the picture of perfect health, but because he recently looked at the conclusion of the Award Voting. Don's Team, The Bosnia & Herzevogina Strikers and Hurlers, led the entire league in Hitting AND Pitching, takes his team to 2nd place, and yet finishes FIFTH in the Manager of the Year Award. Even the Cherries guy finished ahead of him. Well, let's hope he recovers before the playoffs!! (actually I have been waiting to use this picture, this reason is as good as any)

I'm telling you Red, it is all about the dingers (AKA home runs)!!! The Dingers, Red. These Urban Knight Farmers ran away with the Dinger crown. I heard in the off season... my guys bat .390 my old guys average .375. It is all about the Dinger's Red. Our dingers led us to an 8.0 run away pennant victory, my first pennant!!! You can have all the 1890 guys that hit .495, but it is the Dingers! The Dingers Red! The Dingers!!!!!

Detroit's lineup is absolutely lethal, as demonstrated in the regular season. With Babe Ruth sidelined for at least a few games, and Wilford's awesome Pokeman card (he's a Commie Hunter from wayyyy back), it looks like everything is stacked against the Impalers. Rush Limbaugh and his Russian Mob definitely have their work cut out for them!

Prediction is Detroit in 5.

Particle Men ready to take on Strikers!

War-torn Bosnia is no place to visit for a vacation, even if you are vacationing FROM Istanbul, but the Particle Men are ready to battle!

The Strikers have home field advantage, but Istanbul has the power pitching that can shut down any lineup. I'm calling Particle Men in 7, as I think Sandy "Henry Winkler" Koufax will be too much for the Strikers.

Wow! Another season in the books. Not so much drama as to the four playoff teams, but still a lot of individual heroics to cover. Here we go..

Day 181 - October 13 And let's start the final set. Detroit, with a magic number of 2 going into this game, dusts off Verona 4-1 and, combined with a Russian 9th inning loss to Bosnia, clinches the pennant!!! Tim Keefe gets his 23rd victory with a nice three hitter. Old Hoss and BP hand Nolan Ryan his 20th loss (despite his 11 K's).
Day 182 - October 14 Babe Ruth, coming off a bender after last night's heartbreaking loss, injures himself after crushing a home run and is on the DL for 15 games! He'll miss some playoff action. The Babe will end his season with 58 homers, and 132 RBI's, both tops in the league. Verona loses the Dutchmen, Honus Wagner, as well. Detroit with an exciting come-from-behind win starring Chipper Jones and Mickey Mantle. The Futbolers show signs of life with an 8 run inning to top the Cherries, and Istanbul gets Sandy Koufax win #22 on the strength of a 7 run inning!
Day 183 - October 15 Bosnia takes sole possession of 2nd place as Rube Waddell shuts down the Impalers. Cherries get 4 in the 9th to break the Futbolers little winning streak. Wilford Brimley shows no signs of letting up despite clinching the division. He's doubled oatmeal portions and is now sitting with a nice three game winning streak.
Day 184 - October 16 More big innings! BP, down 4-0 going into the 5th, explode for a 10 run inning to beat the Cherries! Willie "Stretch" McCovey hits #40. Glasgow, locked in a 1-1 tie after 10 innings, explode for 6 in the top of the 11th to turn back the Particle Men. Randy Johnson gets his 20th for Verona, as does Addie Joss of Detroit (who beat Walter Johnson, also going for #20).
Day 185 - October 17 Welcome to Istanbul, the land of many K's! Nolan Ryan strikes out 9 in a complete game win, but is still two short of teammate Sandy (345 to 343). Istanbul moves into a tie for 3rd place with Russian. Detroit and Russia continue their last-minute streaks, Detroit with 5 straight wins, Russian with 5 straight losses (missing the Babe for sure!). Detroit suffers a casualty, though, as closer Chief Bender, bent one a little too much and wound up on the DL. The Chief had already logged 4 1/3 innings in tonight's game. The Detroit media are bashing Wilford for not resting his players! Meanwhile, Bosnia's Christy Mathewson joins the 20 win club.
Day 186 - October 18 Another big night and winning hit for BP's Gabby Hartnett. Gabby is hitting .462 (18 for 39) with 5 homers in the last 10 games! Istanbul's Sandy Koufax throws a 6 hit shutout of the Groundskeepers and wraps up the Strikeout Championship (known hereafter as the Istanbul Memorial Award). The Impalers get some revenge and beat Detroit, thus stopping both streaks!
Day 187 - October 19 Pie Traynor gets a homer and 3 ribbies as Istanbul plasters Catfish and the Groundskeepers and claim third place! Detroit decides the best way to play through missing your closer is to demolish your opposition! Jim Rice gets three homers and Detroit bombs Russian 19-9. The Urban Farmers even had an 11 run inning! Bosnia's Rube Waddell gets win #20 in a 3-1 game where all three Striker runs came on solo shots (Jimmie Foxx, Harry Heilmann, and Arky Vaughn)

The top four teams seemed to have distanced themselves from everyone else, at least enough to start printing playoff tickets. Michigan, with a schedule consisting of just Spanish and BP, has a very outside chance of crashing the party, but barring a 2009 Tigers type collapse, it looks like Detroit, Russian, Bosnian, and Istanbul are going to the Big Dance. Foreign teams continue to rule!

Day 171 - October 3 Istanbul wins 4th straight as Yogi hits 30th homer (Hey, Boo Boo, that's a lot of pick-a-nick bas-, I mean, home runs!). Great offensive battle between BP and Russia, Babe hits 3 more taters!
Day 172 - October 4 The Babe is on fire, two more for the Big Man! Glasgow's Stan the Man happy with his 30th (whaddya say!). Five straight for Particle Men.

Istanbul suffered a big loss as the playoffs near, with Bob Gibson missing the next 15.

Day 158 - September 20 BP stops Michigan's win streak on the strength of two Gary Sheffield homers and the broad shoulders and strong arm of Old Hoss Radbourn. Urban Farmers take a wild one from Istanbul, with Cy Young going all 1o innings and Barry Bonds cranking two home runs.
Day 159 - September 21 Groundskeepers score 20 and accumulate 27 hits against Spanish. Kiki Cuyler knocked in 6, and George Kell went 5 for 5. Eppa Rixey was an epic failure, giving up 12 hits and 11 runs in his two innings. Fergie Jenkins goes the distance and gets his first win for Bosnia!

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, a group of boys living in Warren (born and raised in South Detroit, I mean Warren!) were reading their SPORT magazines and Baseball Digests and kept coming across this ad. Game that takes all these factors into account? Realistic? Manage your own team? Sounds good!

$15.75 plus shipping later, we had our starter set from 1974 of the swingin' Oakland A's, LA Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, and Detroit Tigers (I think, Tim or Mike correct me if wrong on that last one!) and life was never the same.

We moved quickly to Strat basketball (awesome), pro football (more awesome), college football (horrible, as no player names were used, just 'fullback #1'), hockey (too confusing to switch lines), and even Trivia game (not so good).

36 years later, I can only tweak Conan O'Brien's opening line from the Old Time Baseball bit...

GM Mike Walter is pleased again with his teams recent performance. 61 wins eh? Better than those Urban farmers all the way over in that gosh forsaken USA. Its about time the Impalers came to getting back into 1st place. We'll see over the next 20 games to see if we cant reach the top of this long, climb to the top". In recent news the pitching is great thanks to one man "Roy, 'Doc' Halladay". He is 2-1 over the recent stretch and he's just awesome.

No shortage of bad news for BP, just as Pud is ready to return to actions, Bob Lemon goes on the DL.
Day 118 - August 11 Another two-hitter by Three-Finger! Istanbul doesn't take any chances with one run leads and blasts the Futbolers. Catfish Hunter beats Detroit, which has bad news for trainer Haystacks Calhoun - Mickey Mantle joins the growing DL! And Michigan continues to roll behind Jim Kaat, five in a row.
Day 119 - August 12 Frank "Single" Baker wins it for VR, Michigan extends winning streak to 6 as Mike Schmidt homers twice, and yet another one-run loss for the Particle Men.
Day 120 - August 13 Sam Thompson with 4 hits and Goose Goslin with a walk-off double for the Roadrunners, Futbolers rout Cherries 15-1 to stop win streak, and Istanbul goes out on a high note for this set with an 8-6 win over Bosnian as the Todd-Father goes 4 for 4.

Detroit continues their reign of terror, but Verona (9-1) and Spanish (8-2) put together nice runs this segment. The Johnson Brothers, Walter and Randy, each got 3 wins over the last 10 games, and Bosnia's Jimmie Foxx (always an Uncle Tim favorite) is hitting .455 with 6 HR's and 12 RBIs in his last 33 at-bats.

Day 101 - July 25 Jimmie Foxx and Manny Ramirez each get a pair of dingers for Bosnia, Wilford continues his rampage as Urban Farmers win again as brothers in steroid-injected arms Barry Bonds and A-Rod lead a 10th inning rally.
Day 102 - July 26 Mickey Welch goes to 12-5 as Detroit wins again, 8 in a row, that's a lot of oatmeal! Cherries edge Particle Men in slugfest featuring an 8 run Michigan inning, BP's new lineup pays off.
Day 103 - July 27 Wilford's boys win 9th in a row, but lose Chipper Jones for 15 games. Detroit wins in 11th after Frankie "ROFL" Frisch got aboard and came home on a colossal Mantle shot. Cherries ace Grover shuts down Particle Men. BP's Pud Galvin pulls a muscle putting on his sport coat.
Day 104 - July 28 10 in a row, now eat your damn oatmeal! Wilford, Haystacks, Kwame, and the rest of the gang celebrate their 'double digits' winning streak. Verona's hurler Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown allows less hits than he has fingers while shutting out the Futbolers. Cherries send slumping Particle Men to 5th straight loss with final inning dramatics involving a Shoeless player. BP's Willie McCovey homers in 4th straight game!
Day 105 - July 29 Finally, some bye days for Detroit, I can't write about Wilford and his oatmeal anymore. Russian's Big Train Walter Johnson handcuffs the anemic Groundskeepers, and Sandy Koufax gets untracked and dominates for Istanbul.
Day 106 - July 30 Glasgow's Catfish Hunter stops the Impalers, Bosnia suddenly in midst of 5 game losing streak. Spillers can't buy a break (or a cap to the oil leaking into the Gulf) and lose another one by just one run on a crazy 10th inning featuring Boring Old Joe Cronin. Obama's favorite player, Willie "Stretch" McCovey continues to shine for BP, hitting home runs #30 and #31, second highest total in the league.

Day 107 - July 31 "No Mas" cry the Groundskeepers as Russia bombs them with 21 runs and 19 hits! Brooks Robinson with 2 more homers, alert the League Random Drug Tester. Bosnia gets off the schneid with a nice win and Iron Joe continues his breakthrough season. Honus Wagner the hero in Verona Ridge as the Dutchman's triple wins it.
Day 108 - August 01 No rust on crusy Wilford as the Urban Farmers win their 11th, 8-0. Big Ed Delahanty's 4 hits give Spanish their 4th straight 'W'.
Day 109 - August 02 Glasgow's Joe Morgan says 'enough's enough' and takes matters into his own hands, belting two homers to finally hand the Urban Farmers a loss. Meanwhile, Spanish upends Istanbul 7-6, and wrests 4th place from them in the process.
Day 110 - August 03 Futbolers again with a 7-6 win over Istanbul, and Detroit gets back on track with a 5-4 win over Glasgow.

Wow, one simple catchphrase, "It's Oatmeal Time" and Detrot takes the lead for the first time, winning 8 of 10 games. Haystacks is eating his oatmeal by the gallon! A great run by the Spanish Futbolers (ole, ole, ole!), going 8-2 recently.

On the other side of the won-loss ledger, Bosnia wears the goat horns, going just 3-7. And at the bottom of the pile, well, there's on old political joke that every time there is a survey on education, income, teeth per capita, whatever, Alabama is always in 49th place, and says "Thank God for Mississippi"! As for Obama's BP Spillers, Glasgow is pleased to be your "Mississippi" (editor's note: I just typed all this up and saw the BP is actually in last and Glasgow one up on them, so, in the words of Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka, strike that, reverse it!)

Day 91 - July 15 BP Beats Detroit in Wilford Brimley's managerial debut as Tom Terrific strikes out 13 and Willie McCovey hits homer #23. Spanish edges Istanbul.
Day 92 - July 16 Bosnia's old knuckeball artist, Phil Niekro, goes to 6-1 and Manny's homer in the 9th wins it. Detroit sends Particle Men to 4th straight loss while The Babe hits his 30th homer in a win over BP.
Day 93 - July 17 Istanbul, missing absentee owner PJ Carr, last seen in the greater Mt. Pleasant area, goes down in flames for the 5th game in a row. Stan The Man gets 3 hits for Glasgow, and Detroit's Kid Nichols (only Wilford is old enough to call him Kid) moves to 8-0 for the year!
Day 94 - July 18 Spanish wins 3rd in a row, Istanbul loses 6th in a row, and Michigan beats Verona in the 15th as Pee Wee Reese turns Cherry Park into his own 'playhouse'. Spillers edge league-leading Impalers as Gabby Hartnett slugs his way to a great day.
Day 95 - July 19 Particle Men get a win, best the Impalers behind a fine outing by Dizzy Dean. Mel Ott smacks two homers for the Futbolers.
Day 96 - July 20 Michigan puts on their hitting shoes and rack up 19 runs and 21 hits (4 by Pudge). A couple of streaking teams win (Spanish 5th in a row, Detroit 3rd)
Day 97 - July 21 Pud Galvin shines for BP, K-Fax spurs the Particle Men to a win, VR wins on an extra-inning walkoff by Earl "The Earl of Snohomish #2" Averill,and Spanish gets #6 in a row behind a Jim Bunning shutout.
Day 98 - July 22 Red-hot Detroit wins 4th in a row and now ties Russia for the league lead. Those swingin' Spaniards thump Russia 16-4.
Day 99 - July 23 Particle Men win slugfest, Detroit alone in first after heroics from Tim Keefe and Mickey Mantle, and Spanish with 8 in a row after Ed Walsh tosses a 4 hit shutout. Over the last 10 games, Spain's Joe Cronin is hitting .455 and Albert Pujols .417!
Day 100 - July 24 Wilford Brimley's mouth curls upward in a pseudo-smile for 1 millisecond as Detroit wins their 6th in a row to end this set on top of the league. Rajah hits two homers, and Cy Young picks up the 'W' for Detroit. The Impalers stop the once-unstoppable Futbolers behind Roger Clemen's 'twirling' and the Babe's three taters!

My team went from 5th to 1st in just a span of 30 games!!!! Good job and stay in the play-off hunt team!!". Also, Team Manager Vlad the Impaler is quoted as saying: "See what happens when your team from a different Continent can do? Also, it was Homer Simpsons fault for doing all of the losing, my ways of teaching the players has paid off significantly!!!!!!".

Don Zimmer is mad at the guy in the red coat who is the Commissioner's chief voter for the 1st half Awards. Don is currently in fourth place on the Manager of the Year award for leading Bosnia to 2nd place tied with the least losses in the league WITH a crazy amount of injuries. Bosnia has 100 games of injuries more than 1st place Russia, and even the addition of that old guy as trainer isnt' helping as Don's best player Al Simmons is now down. Bosnia wishes they could have Haystacks Calhoun from the Urban Farmers. Don Zimmer is more than a pretty face, he is a darn good manager!

Day 77 - July 1 The Mick hits two homers for Detroit's 5th straight win, furious 9th inning rally by Verona falls just a bit short.
Day 78 - July 2 Michigan wins again and now sits in first with Russian, Istanbul pulls past Spanish on key Nap Lajoie base hit.
Day 79 - July 3 Only one game on this day, Michigan's Juan Marichal goes 8 2/3 innings and Rollie Fingers gets save #12 against Spanish.

"We must stop the oil, I mean, losses, and save our waterlife, or our season, I want to say. We will plug the hole in the ocean, or, I mean, the holes in the lineup, and get this righted".

Day 51 - June 5 BP in second place as Rod Carew racks up 3 doubles and 4 RBIs.
Day 52 - June 6 Michigan gets 4 runs in the 9th to top Glasgow, but Shoeless Joe stubs toe and is on the DL. Al Simmons gets a grand slam for Bosnian .
Day 53 - June 7 Barry Bonds, looking amazingly larger and more ripped than ever after working out with Haystacks, goes yard for Kwame's Farmers, Ty Cobb gets 4 hits and 4 ribbies for BP.
Day 54 - June 8 Ninth inning rally keyed by Robin Yount and Willie Stargell gives Michigan an improbable win, Impalers get 4 in the 9th to beat BP.
Day 55 - June 9 Robin Yount walkoff puts Michigan over Detroit, Bosnian's big guys, McGwire and Ted Williams, push the Strikers over the Futbolers.
Day 56 - June 10 Mickey Welch gets win #7 for Detroit, Stan the Man delivers for Glasglow
Day 57 - June 11 Strikers get third straight win by racking up 21 hits, Jim Thome gaves the Farmers another walkoff homer.
Day 58 - June 12 Big offense from Bosnia (18 runs including 2 HR's by Manny) and Istanbul (22 hits).
Day 59 - June 13 Reggie Jackson and Brooks Robinson combine for 9 RBIs for Impalers in wild 18-11 win over Glasgow, Iron Joe gives Bosnia 5th straight win.
Day 60 - June 14 After long streak of injury-free play, Bosnia loses the Splinter again. A dispirited Striker team lost to Glasgow on a dramatic two-run walkoff homer by Roberto Alomar. Hank Greenberg slugs Spillers past Roadrunners.

Never the less, I expect to be at the All-Star break by early next week at the latest, and wrapped up with the regular season by Labor Day! Don't dawdle on any trade-making or lineup-shuffling (or apple hurling, as Road Block might say). Make your moves soon before you end up like the Wee Willie Groundskeepers, buried in a shallow grave of their own digging.

Bosnia hires 95 year old Fitness Guru Jack Lalanne to be new athletic director. Who better to help my "mostly dead already" Hall of Famers than a trainer who is mostly dead himself. Jack says there are too many injuries on this team, and they are probably a bunch of girly men who haven't done enough lunges to stay in shape.

Third set of games - through Day 30

The third set featured the rise of Istanbul and the Russian Impalers to the top of the charts, with Detroit, BP, and Bosnian close behind. Injuries have hit several teams very hard already, notably BP and Bosnian, and I expect things to get even closer when they are at full strength.

The last 10 games saw 5 home run "power surges" from both likely sources (Willie Mays of Michigan) and unlikely sources (Brooks Robinson of Russian). BP's Gabby Hartnett was stinging the ball to all fields, hitting a lofty .433 over 10 games.

Day 21 - May 6 Slugging Brooks Robinson puts Russia over the top, Cherries offense finally gets in gear.
Day 22 - May 7 Sandy Koufax goes to 6-0, brings Istanbul to 1st place. BP Spillers with a costly win as Jim Palmer joins fellow 70's ace Tom Seaver on the DL. Luckily, Ty Cobb is sharpening his spikes and ready to return soon.
Day 23 - May 8 Urban Farmers own fellow laborers the Groundskeepers, Impalers have big rally in 9th to upend Verona Ridge.
Day 24 - May 9 Pud Galvin goes the distance for BP, and Barry Bonds the hero in Michigan.
Day 25 - May 10 Bosnia stunned by injury to mighty Ted Williams (a splinter in the Splinter?), Urban Farmers take 4th in a row, Babe hits two dingers.
Day 26 - May 11 K-Fax picking up where he left off last year, goes to 7-0 for Istanbul with a 3 hit shutout over the Cherries (hey, I know it's the Cherries, but it still counts!).
Day 27 - May 12 BP, knowing Chuck Norris is on the way, wins 4th in a row. Particle Men and Futbolers win exciting, extra-inning games.
Day 28 - May 13 Bosnia, racked by injuries, drop 5th straight, while Nap Lajoie wins another for the Particle Men.
Day 29 - May 14 Futbolers offense exploded with 18 runs and 22 hits. Matthew's Eddie Mathews goes on DL though. Princel Hal tosses a shutout for Michigan, and Brooks Robinson, looking amazingly buff this year, hits two more home runs, arousing suspicion everywhere!
Day 30 - May 15 Break up the Groundskeepers, they defeat the awesome Sandy Koufax and Istanbul. K-Fax drops to 7-1 after absorbing his first loss of the year.

Hello, good gentleman, and lady. If you don't know me, I'm not the latest sedan out of Detroit (the Ford Frick, up to 22 mpg highway, 20 city), nor am I the origin of the infamous, all-purpose fake cuss word adjective (Frickin'). I was the third Commissioner of Baseball, established the Baseball Hall of Fame, and helped integrate baseball by threatening to suspend those players unwilling to play against Jackie Robinson (Don't you worry, Dave Walter, we'll get Cool Papa Bell, Satchel Paige, and Josh Gibson in here soon!)

Anyways, on to the business at hand. Judge Landis has sent a telegram indicating that he would in fact allow a move to Russia. The Good Judge is hellbent on global expansion of this here game of base ball. You will have to shorten the name up a little though. "Vlad the Impalers" doesn't fit, so maybe just "Impalers"? And let me know of any specific city, region, or Soviet-controlled republic that you want to situate this team in.

In anoter note, everyone else, please let me know your stadium names and what real-life stadium you want in the background. It's optional, but I actually have access to pictures of just about every MLB stadium ever, so be adventurous. The stadium name will be in many game stories, and the pictures on the top of the Team Yearbooks.

Wow, this is already some kind of excitement, lots of big performances in the first set of games. Let's start with those foreign teams, living up to their reputation as the teams to beat. Istanbul, those Particle Men, won 6 straight games to start the season. Tough to beat that. Another foreign team, the Bosnian Strikers, has to be happy, as Ted Williams homered every game for 6 straight days! Wow, the Splinter, mmm mmm, he's got some kind of swing.

As for individual performances, how about Glasgow's Joe Morgan? 3 for 5 with 2 HR's against the Cherries? Boy, that fella can play. I think Roberto Alomar better get used to his seat on the bench, heh heh. And how about, back in Istanbul, or is it Constantinople, Jon? Istanbul? Ok, good. Nap Lajoie, the fabulous Frenchman, packing a lot of vowels in that last name, going 5 for 5 agains the hapless Michigan Cherries. Speaking of the Cherries, they are the mirror opposites of the Particle Men, losing their first six before putting together a winning effort. Dave Walter might have to start working the phone lines already for some trades.

The 2010 Carr Hall of Fame League is off to a great start, with some big performances right out of the gate. We'll start with Istanbul's Nolan Ryan, who delivered a 1 hit shutout of the Michigan Cherries, striking out 14. Homer's ace Walter Johnson started strong as well, tossing a 3 hitter over the Glasgow Groundskeepers. Looking for hitting action? Go no further than the classic father/son battle between of foreign teams, as Bosnia and Spanish combined for 16 runs and 36 hits! Albert Pujols and Big Ed Delahanty each had 4 base hits.

I want to try something different with the posts this year.
