Designated hitter Al Kaline hit one over the fence and Pud Galvin completed
the game without help from the bullpen at Chuck Norris Stadium where the
Walkerville Texas Rangers beat the Bernstein Bears by the score of 7 to
1.
Walkerville went ahead for good in the 2nd inning scoring one runner utilizing
2 base hits. Walkerville finished with 12 hits in the victory.
Galvin(4-0) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. The losing
pitcher was Christy Mathewson(3-4). He was unable to control the Walkerville
offense and allowed 12 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.

Left fielder Willie Stargell hit a homerun and Roy Halladay tossed a complete
game as the E Street Outlaw Petes topped the Verona Ridge Roadrunners by a
score of 5 to 1 at Roadrunner Park.
Verona Ridge never recovered after E Street took the lead in the top of the
2nd inning plating an isolated run. E Street totaled 11 hits on the
afternoon.
The victory went to Halladay(4-2) who went the distance allowing 1 run. Bert
Blyleven(1-3) was tagged with the loss. He allowed 11 hits and 4 walks in 8
and 2/3 innings.

25,685 fans watched an exciting game at Vermont Field. The Vermont Saps
topped the General Motors Corporate Jets by the slimmest of margins, 8 to
7.
Vermont came up with 5 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning with the help of 4
hits. The key at-bat was by Luke Appling who excited the crowd when he
belted a three-run homer (his 1st of the season). General Motors made it
exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
Eppa Rixey(1-0) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 6 runs for the victory. Rixey
got help from Trevor Hoffman who earned his 1st save. The loss was charged
to Chief Bender(1-6). He surrendered 5 hits and 1 walk in 1 and 2/3 innings.
The Vermont ballclub's record now stands at 10-17. With the loss, General
Motors has a record of 4-6 lately, 9-18 overall.
