Hal Newhouser tossed a complete game at Vermont Field as the Walkerville Texas
Rangers staged a comeback win over the Vermont Saps by the count of 7 to
6.
Walkerville won the game with a rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring 2
runs utilizing 3 base hits. Rickey Henderson led off and started the rally
when he drew a walk. Henderson swiped second base. Ty Cobb then delivered a
base-hit. Chipper Jones was up next and he doubled. Frank Thomas came to
the plate and laced a single. Reggie Jackson got his turn next, but he was a
strikeout victim. Cal Ripken was next to the plate, but was promptly struck
out. Both teams totaled 9 hits on the afternoon.
Newhouser(2-2) finished the game allowing 6 runs in the victory. Luis
Tiant(1-4) was the loser. He pitched 8 innings allowing 7 hits and 10
walks.
Tim Carr was not very talkative after his team's tough loss. 'I'm not in the
mood for questions, but I'm sure Chuck Norris will be glad to talk about the
game as long as you have questions to ask.'

Center fielder Joe Dimaggio had 4 hits as the Mumbai Slumdogz defeated the
General Motors Corporate Jets in 11 innings by the score of 6 to 4 at the
ballpark.
Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings. Mumbai won the game
in the 11th inning. Carl Yastrzemski led off and keyed the rally when he
doubled. Gabby Hartnett came next and he delivered a single. Jim Bottomley
then doubled. Home Run Baker dug into the batters box next, but he struck
out. Elmer Flick stepped into the box and worked the squeeze play to
perfection. Mumbai out-hit General Motors for the game, 14 hits to 11.
The winning pitcher was Carl Hubbell(1-1) who allowed no runs in 4 innings.
The losing pitcher was Chief Bender(1-4). He got hit pretty hard, allowing
14 hits and 2 walks in 10 innings.

Mark McGwire slammed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Grover C. Alexander came
through with a solid 9 innings as the Wyoming Triops clobbered the outmatched
New Zealand Kiwis, 12 to 0.
McGwire was unconscious all day. The New Zealand fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box as he just kept delivering base hits! He smashed
a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 1st inning, rifled a three-run blast (his 10th
of the season) in the 5th inning and doubled which plated a run in the 9th
inning. Wyoming had many opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6
separate innings.
Alexander(5-2) was credited with the shutout. Whitey Ford(2-1) was the losing
pitcher. He allowed 7 homeruns in 7 innings of work.
'I had good swings today,' McGwire said, 'Everything felt right'.
VERONA RIDGE AT E STREET

Willie Stargell smashed 3 homeruns and had 6 RBI as the E Street Outlaw Petes
outscored the Verona Ridge Roadrunners 7 to 5.
Stargell punished Verona Ridge with his bat. He cracked a solo homerun in the
2nd inning, lofted a three-run bomb in the 6th inning and bombed a two-run
dinger (his 8th of the season) in the 8th inning. E Street had a total of 11
hits for the game.
Rollie Fingers(1-1) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. The
loss was charged to Billy Wagner(0-2) in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 3
hits in 2 innings.
'Actually, I didn't feel that comfortable at the plate today' Stargell said
after the game. 'Despite that, I'm happy with the results!
