Jimmie Foxx had 3 base hits at Roadrunner Park where the Verona Ridge
Roadrunners beat the General Motors Corporate Jets 7 to 3.
General Motors fell behind quickly as the Verona Ridge offense came through in
the first inning with 2 runs using 3 hits. Honus Wagner led off the inning
for Verona Ridge when he slapped a single. After an out was recorded, Ralph
Kiner came to the plate and laced a base-knock. Jimmy Dugan then called for
a steal which was successful. Foxx came up and he lined a one-base hit.
Barry Bonds stepped into the box and drew a walk. Verona Ridge ended up with
12 hits for the game while General Motors had 9.
Nolan Ryan(2-2) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 6 and 2/3 innings.
John Franco gained credit for his 2nd save. Chief Bender(1-2) was charged
with the loss. He was knocked around by Verona Ridge, allowing 12 hits and 5
walks in 8 innings.

Third baseman Eddie Mathews cracked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI at Vermont Field
where the New Zealand Kiwis beat the Vermont Saps by the score of 10 to
6.
Mathews had a big day at the plate. He cleared the fences for a two-run home
run in the 2nd inning and lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 4th of the
season) in the 4th inning. New Zealand finished with 14 hits in the victory.
The win went to Goose Gossage(1-1) who allowed no runs in 2 innings. Luis
Tiant(1-3) suffered the loss. He gave up 6 hits and 1 walk in 1 and 1/3
innings.
WYOMING AT E STREET

Stan Musial jacked one out of the ballyard and had 4 RBI at the ballpark as
the E Street Outlaw Petes came back dramatically to top the Wyoming Triops by
the score of 10 to 9.
E Street won the game with a rally in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 2 hits.
Willie Stargell started the scoring when he hit a bases-empty home run (his
4th of the season). After an out was recorded, Wade Boggs stepped up to the
plate and he stroked a single. Hamilton swiped second base. E Street
continued their aggressive style with another stolen base. A wild affair,
this game saw the lead change 5 times.
Dizzy Dean(2-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 3 and 1/3 innings and
allowing 3 runs. Carl Mays(1-1) took the loss in relief. E Street scored big
getting 5 runs off him in 4 and 2/3 innings.
'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Musial noted. 'It was
looking pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it
really paid off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there
at the end!'

Lefty Grove completed the game without help from the bullpen and left fielder
Carl Yastrzemski went deep and had 2 RBI at Tech Support Stadium as the
Mumbai Slumdogz staged a comeback win over the Bernstein Bears by the count
of 3 to 2.
Mumbai had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning with 2 runs.
Ted Williams led off and keyed the rally when he drew a walk. Joe Dimaggio
got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. Yastrzemski then smashed a
two-run homer (his 2nd of the season) resulting in a mighty exciting win for
Mumbai and the 38,509 home town fans in attendance. Mumbai managed only 6
hits on the afternoon.
Grove(2-2) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 2 runs. Dennis
Eckersley(0-1) ended up with the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 2
hits in 1 and 1/3 innings.
'What a win!', Grove said. 'These are the kind of games that stand out in
your mind at the end of a season.'
