MMMMM, All....Time....Stats

All-time league stats updated!

Willie "Pops" Stargell enjoyed his best season yet under the tutelage of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, I mean, Outlaw Petes

The All-Time Carr HOF League stats have been updated, you can click on the link on the left side of the screen. Tim, I expect you to lose most of the rest of the week to clicking away at even newer and more complex stats!

You'll see that some players had their best seasons yet under their new management (Willie Stargell, Hank Aaron, even Duke Snider), and others (Don Drysdale) fell to new lows.

At any rate, the All-Time and Single Season leaders are a great way to waste some time on the Intraweb, so get clicking!

What a Series!!!

Great Job Slumdogz, you guys are certainly having a good year with a best selling movie and now this. Too bad for PJ, he had a great team this year. I thought he would pull it out. It was an exciting series looking back at the boxcores. Great Job by all!!

Slumdogz bring the Landis Trophy Back Home!

Slumdogs arrive home to a grand celebration

Slumdogz manager Deepak Chopra, clearly very emotional as he addressed the crowd, his monotone, plodding manner of speaking inching up one-half of an octave, thanked the 60 million residents of the populous Indian city that came out to the parade for all of their support during the season, and for all the spirited sing-a-longs to "Jai Ho" during the playoff run.

Playoff heros Mel Ott and Johnny Mize got the loudest ovations from the crowds. Ott lit up a smoke and said "Nothing like a fine Chesterfield cigarette and a nice juicy steak after winning a title!", clearly upsetting the cow-loving community. Calm was restored, and all celebrated deep into the night.

Thanks to all for another fun and exciting Carr Hall of Fame season!

AMC's "Mad Men" presents - Classic Moments in Advertising

Playoff foes Bill Dickey of E Street and Mel Ott of Mumbai take time out from the grind of the post-season to put together a nice advertisement on the virtues of smoking. Lookin' good, gents!

This ad campaign helped build Chesterfield Township, a bedroom community in Michigan designed specifically to appeal to dapper, classy smokers.

World Series Recap

Johnny Mize, "The Big Cat" wins World Series MVP honors based on his 4 homer, 16 RBI performance. Mel Ott, who was sensational in both Mumbia series, was runner up

Biggest Surprises

Great Posts on the Awards. All Good Stuff. Here is my top ten list of Biggest Carr HOF surprises:
#10 - The Barry Bonds placed 2nd in Fielding of all HOF Outfielders. His glove must have been on Steroids.
#9 - That, for my money, the best pitcher ever - Walter Johnson - would go 19 and 23, amazing.
#8 - Of all the fireballing, unbelievable pitchers in the last 100 years, the person that would win the strikeout crown is.....Rube Waddell??!!???
#7 - That Runs Created/27 outs is even a statistic! What does this mean? If he was the only batter for all nine innings, this is how many runs he would score?!? There's going to be alot of "Ghost on Second" shouts during that game!
#6 - That Hughie Jennings would place in the top 12 in any other category than Hit by Pitch. He actually placed in doubles and stolen bases.
#5 - That Tris Speaker would be first, I am saying FIRST, in four of the big 7 hitting categories and not even get on the 1st or 2nd team All Star Voting?
#4 - That Ken Griffey placed third in Hitting Streak with 19 games. This must have been the only 19 games that he got a hit in.
#3 - That Hal Newhouser is even in the HOF. Year after year he disappoints his manager. This years numbers: 26 losses, 234 runs given up, 370 hits given up in 43 games. Yuck!
#2 - That Chipper Jones would be in the Top 10 in RBI's in a league of such unbelievable hitters. I didn't even know Chipper Jones was one of the better players in the last 15 years. And I keep getting him confused with Andruw Jones.
#1 - That, after all these years of following baseball, that I just discovered that Nap Lajoie pronounces his name as "Lajjaway" and not "Lajoy". Wow!!
Great Year, good luck in the playoffs.

Lamest Team name Award goes to...

Verona Ridge! Please change your name Aunt Linda!!! For gosh sakes we know you have comedic names to come up with, so why keep those awesome ideas in your head by keeping the same name for every strat sport we play!

Only Team who hired a Handicapped Manager, Bernstein Bears with Mr. Blindey

Hi my name is Sam Bernstein, part of the law attorney here at the Bernstein Lawfirm wishing you would have hired me for your services as the Bernstein Bears are sueing everyone for making my team lose. Get your papers ready as we will soon go to Court!!!!

Best Team Song

A lot of interesting candidates to pick from. You can actually click on each one below and see the video and hear the song....

E Street Outlaw Petes - Manager Bruce Springsteen and "Outlaw Pete" (Live, no less!)
Wyoming Triops - "Triops have Three Eyes"
Mumbai Slumdogz - "Jai Ho"
Walkerville - "The Chuck Norris Song" - Removed - turned out to be too dirty :-(
GM Corporate Jets - Manager Eeyore and "You Are My Sunshine"

While Eeyore's performance is absolutely inspired (for him, at least), the Judge awards this one to Bruce Springsteen, and the epic "Outlaw Pete"!!!!

Best Promotion Award

For Best marketing of his team with the ralley monkey, Wakefield, Munjo Jerry 5th inning music with "Summertime" and Bruce Springsteen Concerts after some home games goes to...

E-Street Outlaw Petes!!!!!!

Best Team Transformation

Chandler Bing and Vermont win this one, for their daring name (and attitude) change. I mean, really, Saps? Could it get any lamer than that? Here's the numbers behind the transformation...

Vermont Saps 28 wins 40 losses .411
Vermont Zaps 52 wins 42 losses .553

The Zaps were 'born' in 8th place, and climbed all the way to a tie for 5th, just one game out of the playoffs.

Most Joe Morgan Like Performance

Given annually by ESPN's Joe Morgan, this award is given to the player that is solid in all facets of the game (hitting for average, hitting for power, fielding, speed, arm flapping before pitches, boring commentary while broadcasting games). This year's winner had a fine campaign, hitting .260, 18 homers, 45 steals. Ladies and gentlemen, this year's winner is...

JOE MORGAN (Mumbai)

Most Hammerin' Hank Award

Another intense competition was for the MHH award, given each year to the player nicknamed Hammerin' Hank that has the best year.

Hammerin' Hank Greenberg had a monster year - .307, 56 homers, and 141 rbi's for the GM Corporate Jets.

Hammerin' Hank Aaron had a similar year for New Zealand (.307, 41 homers, and 140 RBI)

Shocking that their average is exactly the same and only 1 RBI separates them, but the home run difference is too big to deny, so this years MHH goes to..

HANK GREENBERG (GM)

Other Carr HOF awards

In addition to the fine awards calculated by Strat (congratulations, Manager of the Year, Mr. Jake the Drifter!), it seems appropriate for a few more awards.

Rookie of the Year: Albert Pujols, Vermont
Phat Albert debuted in a big way this season, with an extraordinary season (.290, 52 homers, and an insane 175 RBIs!). Surprised he didn't get more love in the MVP voting. Only Chandler Bing had more impact on Vermont than "The Machine"!

Other rookies
-Frank Thomas (WAL)- The Big Hurt was low on average (.218), but big on power (34 taters)
-Chipper Jones (WAL) - Runner-up for Rookie of the Year, the Chip-ster hits .297, with 36 homers and 128 ribbies
-Jim Katt (BER) - Uncle Dave's favorite player, Kitty-Kaat went 1-8 (but fielded well!)
-Roy Halladay (EOP)- After a great start, Doc faded a bit, but still had a solid season for the Outlaw Petes (16-12, 4.51 ERA)
-Jim Thome (GM) - Much like the Big Hurt, low average (.217) but high HRs (40)
-Bert Blyleven (VER) - King of the Dutch Curveball, Bert "Be Home" Blyleven had a fine season, with a 13-9, 4.78 ERA, and 236 K's
-Tommy John (WYO) - Although limited to just 39 innings due to undergoing Himself Surgery, and dying out west and all, Tommy was OK, with a 4-1, 3.96 season

ZAPS and KIWIS Response

Congrats to Aunt Linda and more important Judge Landis. This exciting finish surely helped TV ratings, ha ha. Well, it was very exciting, especially for me. The change in name to the Zaps surely energized my team in the 2nd half, but alas just one game short. Good luck to all in the playoffs. We should think about expanding the playoffs, eh??? ha ha

Matthew is a little mad at his dad for not winning the game and throwing this thing into a big tie. Who would have one the tiebreaker, or do you play more games when there is a tie at the end of the season?

Season ends with a dogfight to the finish for the 4th playoff spot

The Babe wins another MVP, while Mumbai's Lefty Grove, with original Hosehead manager Connie Mack, receives his award

The Babe hung on and won the League MVP Award despite a ferocious charge by Willie Mays of Wyoming. The Bambino finished with a .329 average, 51 HR's, and 141 RBIs. Lefty Grove wins the Cy Young this year, over defending champ Sandy "K-Fax" Koufax. Lefty had 24 wins for the Slumdogz, and a league-leading ERA of 3.98

The playoff matchups are set, with regular season champion Wyoming taking on defending champion Verona Ridge, and upstart E Street Outlaw Petes against Judge Landis himself (and the Mumbai Slumdogz!). Good luck to all participants, and thanks to all for another exciting regular season

Day 187 - Verona wins again in Vermont, takes 4th place by just 1 game over both Vermont and New Zealand. It's playoff time!!!

VR's Bob Gibson made sure that the Roadrunners could defend their belt, whiffing 14 batters and holding Vermont to just 7 hits.

Standings with just 7 more days to go

New Zealand makes their move! Roughly 20 games left

Don Drysdale, Eddie Plank, and Whitey Ford combine for 8 Kiwi wins in the last 10 games.

Albert Pujols is en fuego with a .395 average, 8 homers, and 25 RBIs the last 10 games!!! To put that into perspective, that's a pace of 400 for the entire season! Hammering Hank Greenberg has gone ice cold, leaving some room for the Babe to recapture the home run lead.

Uncle Tim's Musings from Music City

I find it interesting that...........

Detroit is hotter than Nashville right now.
Somehow I am in 5th place on Manager of the Year - now that's funny.
Does it mean I was a terrible drafter and I am overachieving?
I still can't believe GM's HR total. But did you see his Strikeout Total, Whoa!
I am shocked like everyone that E Street collapsed, but as you know, what happens in the playoffs is all everyone really remembers - well, maybe remembers. I can't remember who won last year - was it me???
Equally amazing has GM's HR is Walkerville's SB's. A Whopping 219 vs. 2nd place Verona Ridge's 107. I would say: "Today, Walkerville is the Greatest of all Time!!!"
Anyone else completely flabbergasted with what Usain Bolt is doing!?!?! 9.58 in 100M and 19.19 in 200M. Geez, would I like to get a hold of his Track Strat Card...
I am still on the believer side of the ledger when it comes to the Tigers. I am worried about the White Sox, but I think the Tigers can get in the postseason. Not much after that though, I am afraid.
Props to PJ on his team quietly and efficiently holding onto 1st. I don't remember him picking very high in the draft, so Good Job PJ!!
Also, Props to Uncle Pat and Aunt Linda. It does appear that year in year out, they are contenders. Same for Uncle Dave's Teams, except that they are always out of contention.

Well that's it for now from Music City.

Fun with Charts

I think Uncle Tim will be particularly interested in this. Just discovered the capability of creating a ton of different bar graphs and charts in the game.

Want to make special note of Eeyore's powerful Corporate Jets, whose 273 home runs is easily tops in the league (2nd place is Wyoming, with only 202). That's slighly more than two dingers per game so far, an amazing pace!

Click on any one of these pictures to enlarge them. Will take requests for any other charts people want to see!

(Inkster is supposedly ranked 45th nation wide.) Anyways, we played Inkster 1st and that was awful for us. Not for Devin Gardner as he passed for 3 touchdowns in like 5 mintues of game time. He was done playing us after that. We still had 20 plus mintues after that. I thought I did a lack luster job against Inkster but hey there ranked nationally and were operating a new offense so were going to be bad at that stand point but our defesne is pretty good. So Inkster beat us good with a score of 6 TD's to 1. 2nd Game was against Harrsion. Looked like Harrsion was beat up after their 1st round game vs. Rice. We lost closely of a score of 4 to 2 TD's. Harrison looked good, but so did we. Our offense picked up a bit in our 2nd game and I thought I did a lot, lot better job against them than Inkster. Still we lost. Last but least was Rice. What can I say? There beastly on offense. There QB could run and throw pretty darn well. They racked up like 3 TD's in a few mintues like Inkster. Again, we did ok for our standards. We scored twice, once with 1st string and 1 with our 2nd string. On the day, we lost all 3 but all in all we did our best and thats all our coaches could ask us for. But we play Henry Ford 2 Thursday at Ford/Stevenson Field. 7pm game time.

Any Live Games to be played?

GM Mike W is interested if there any last season games to be played live at the Landis Household. (I will not play those triops.) But Mumbai, I think we end the season at your place, so that would be fun.

Jimmie Foxx clubs 9 homers over last 10 days! Hank Aaron hitting.448 with 4 dingers!

Kind of an interesting set as ALL teams won either 4,5, or 6 games. Early on, several teams were aiming for Verona and the 4th spot, but they all fell back a little. Roughly 30 more days to go, and the top three teams are all but assured playoff spots. The final spot is still open if a team gets hot!

And how about Joltin' Joe, sneaking into the RBI leaders. Joe is now tied for 4th with 115!
